REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Post injury massage therapy is an intrinsic part of rehabilitation.
If soft tissue is allowed to heal on its own a build up of scar tissue occurs.
If left untreated this leaves a hard spot in the muscle concerned. It will not stretch, it is not flexible,
will become a weak point and another possible muscular breakdown site in the future.
Massage can go some way toward minimising the effects of old scar tissue. However there is no substitute for
massage during the secondary phase of healing, where it can assist in the improved formation of scar tissue and
reduce the harmful effects as highlighted previously.
During an injury the body has a natural defence mechanism, it minimises the amount of weight or movement an
injured muscle is exposed to. This places additional stress on other muscle groups because the body is asked to
move in an unusual manner. If this is not treated along with the injury, these tensions build and continue to
hold the body out of balance long after recovery from the initial trauma. This could develop into another
significant problem, progressing from areas of continued discomfort to additional injuries as a worst case
scenario.
During your recovery advice on appropriate daily stretch routines are also given to assist in the process.
Invest in remedial massage during your recovery from soft tissue injury and reap the rewards of a faster
and more permanent rehabilitation.
