THERAPUTIC MASSAGE FOR RELIF FROM OCCUPATIONAL STRESS

Many people spend their working life putting their bodies under excessive stress.

Physical stress can be in two main forms

  • Over exertion: this occurs in physically demanding jobs where the body is subjected to hard physical work. This type of physical stress can cause injuries such as pulled muscles, strains and sprains or send muscles into spasms. Due to the nature of such injuries they are obvious to the individual and easy to identify as they will cause immediate pain or discomfort. Therefore the person will normally have the injury attended to immediately.
  • Over use: this occurs in occupations where the body is quite static and makes repeated small movements. The phrase and condition repetitive use syndrome is well known today as is tendonitis and tension headaches.

These types of injuries build up over longer periods of time. The body will adapt and compensate itself to cope with the slight discomfort in its early stages until it reaches a threshold where the individual will feel pain. It is at this stage where help is sought. However massage is very effective in helping to prevent the body from reaching this point.

Most occupations will contain an element of both stress types and everyday living itself is becoming more and more stressful. We cannot remove all of these stresses from our lives so it makes sense to manage and maintain our physical health by being proactive in preventing the effects of over exertion and over use from causing pain and discomfort in the first place.

Initial massage treatment followed by the passive use of Nikken products on a day to day bases have also been reported by many to help reduce these ongoing stress levels and provide assistance in the recovery process.
